Travel Plans

My last "real" vacation (my definition is very special: a real vacation means getting on a plane and fly to a different country, not skiing, no weekend city trip) was in 2004, when I travelled in Patagonia and spend 4 months in Argentina. Last year, I neither had time nor money to travel and this year, it's the same thing.

Now that I have a job and at least some idea, what I will do and where I will live next year, I am officially planning a trip next year. At the moment, I am considering three countries.

My choice will depend on:
a) Travel time (either spring, summer, fall or winter 2007)
b) Money
c) My brother
d) Money

The choices are:
1. Thailand
+ very cheap
+ great country to get a feeling for Asia
+ beaches and culture
+ good winter destination
- relatively expensive flight
- humidity
- three weeks minimum (could be a + as well)

2. Spain (Andalucia)
+ I speak the language
+ easy to reach from Germany (Train or Plane)
+ could be arranged with very little planning
+ culture and beaches
- daily expenses would be pretty high (compared to Asia)

3. Canada
+ I'd get to see my three kids
+ I know a lot of people (in Ontario)
+ West Coast Canada is high on my must-see-list
+ I speak the language
- only a summer option which means
- very expensive flights
- very high expenses for travelling
- depends on my brother (he might get an internship in Canada next spring)

I am sort of leaning towards Thailand, because I really think, that I should do the longer flights and "exotic" destinations while I am still young. I can still travel in Europe, once I have a family or when I am 75 :-)

So I spend my commute reading travel guides and brochures, thinking about my next vacation...
I even found this great page, that generates a customized packaging list!

Heat Wave

The heat is unbearable right now. My thoughts are slower, every movement makes you sweat and I wish, I really wish I'd have an air-conditioned office... Well, it is Friday now and if I want to I can spend the entire weekend in my cool basement bedroom!

Guess what I did on Saturday?

I got up at 5.30 and spend the whole day on a flea market selling all sorts of crabby stuff from our basement! I did not have high hopes to sell a lot, but wanted to try! I went with a friend, her Mum, her sister, another friend and my two sisters. Boy, did we have fun. The last time I actually sold stuff was about 15 years ago on a kids flea market in my village. Never have I done this as an adult, but I loved the whole experience. We had great weather, lots of customers and actually made more money than expected. And I got rid of old clothes, bags and books! Can't wait for next year and my bank account is jumping up and down from joy as well!

Zu lustig!

Motivation

My motivation to blog is almost zero at the moment. In the mornings, all I do is get up at 5.30 and go to work. I have a two-hour-commute every morning AND every evening. So when I get back at about 6.30, 7.oo in the evening, all I do is shower, eat, read my favorite blogs, watch TV and then go to sleep. What a life, huh. Well, I am going to move in exactly 5 weeks, so it won't be too bad. And there is another really exhausting thing right now: the HEAT. We have had very warm and hot weather for 5 weeks straight now. Ahm, hello, we live in Germany, not southern Spain. At about 4 o'clock in the afternoon, it gets so unbearably hot in my office, it is almost impossible to concentrate at all. Keep in mind, there is no air-conditioning, neither in my office, nor at home, nor in quite a few of the trains and buses I am taking every day. Interesting fact: on a normal day I take 1 car, 4 different kind of trains and 1 bus to and from work. Don't get me wrong, I love public transportation, but sometimes, I just wish I had a car....

All good things...

... must come to an end! On Tuesday, the german soccer team had to face the end of a successful tournament with two goals of Italy in the 118th an 121st minute! A very sad day! However, we won the "little" final match today with 3:1 against Portugal! The match was in Stuttgart and as everybody keeps singing "Stuttgart is much nicer than Berlin", we sort of decided to ignore the real finals tomorrow and pretend to be the worl champions. We would have deserved it, that's for sure!

Jubel, Schreien, Emotionen. Wegschauen.
Ayala schießt und Lehmann hält.
Hoffnung wächst in Fußballdeutschland.
Jubel. Tanzen. Singen. Weinen. Feiern. Essen!
