Heute hier, morgen dort

I love the months of May and June. Really, I do. There are two long weekends in each month and you gotta appreciate that! On Monday, it is May 1st. A national holiday in Germany, because it is Labor day. May 25th is Ascencion Day, June 5th Pentecost Monday and June 15th Feast of Corpus Christi. The weather is okay right now, but it is supposed to be pretty cold this weekend. Too bad, I really like to get out by bike or on a hike on May 1st. There are people out everywhere and you can go to "Maifeste" everywhere. Local clubs or "Vereine" pitch large beer tents and you can hike from event to event! FUN, even though I neither like beer nor enjoy the traditional "Blasmusik"!

Samstag war ich in Bonn und habe mit einer Freundin eine tolle Radtour den Rhein runter bis nach Bad Godesberg gemacht. Der Rückweg war nur leider gegen den Wind und daher sehr anstrengend. Das Wetter war super und es scheint, als wäre der Frühling endlich da!

Heute war ich im Fitness-Studio. Ein echt spannendes Erlebnis. Ich wollte einfach mal wissen, wie es denn da so abgeht und vor allem was die Mitgliedschaft so kostet (zu viel, aber ich werds vermutlich trotzdem machen). Dank meines Bruders war ich auf deren Taktiken vorbereitet und zögerte die ganze Zeit rum. Die hätte mir in ihrer ganzen aufgesetzten Freundlichkeit die Mitgliedschaft fast geschenkt wenn ich SOFORT unterschrieben hätte. Hab ich aber nicht. Will mir das ganze nochmal in Ruhe überlegen und das ganze kleingedruckte durchlesen. Das allerbeste war aber zu beobachten, wie sie so langsam im Verlauf unseres Gesprächs hektisch wurde. Immer wieder versuchte sie mich zu überreden und ich war total locker. Ich diktierte sozusagen den Gesprächsverlauf und das hat ihr nicht gepasst (oder sie ist das so nicht gewohnt).

I know, I know, I keep neglecting this blog! I am not even sure why, but I guess one of the reasons is my new Mac. I have spend pretty much every night this week transferring my pictures, documents and music. The biggest challenge so far was importing my Outlook mails to the .mbx format and into Apple Mail, but I finally succeeded last night (thanks to this program). I am also backing up all the data, that is currently on my external HD on DVD, so I can re-format the thing and use it with the Mac. One thing is for sure. I am NOT switching back. Ever. Just too much work involved.

Work keeps me busy as well and life is just neither really exciting nor really boring at the moment. I talked to my host Mom in Canada on Sunday and they just bought a house there with a pool. The Kids are beyond excited and they invited me for the summer. I would love to go and see them all. The Kids must have grown so much since I have seen the almost two years ago. They will be 15, 11 and 12 years old this year. Teenager and Preteens, not the little Kids I met 5 years ago anymore. Time really is flying by. Soon, the oldest will drive and my little girl will not be playing with her Polly Pockets anymore (she was OBSESSED with them 4 years ago). And the 12-year-old got selected for Select Soccer at his new school. I wish he’d be here for all the World Cup Frenzy that is going on in Germany right now. I have to remember to send them some Socccer Candy and T-Shirts and Stuffed Animals if I don’t go… Flights are so expensive in August and that would be the only time I could go.

Summer vacation. An endless topic at the moment. At work, people are discussing where to go. One of my colleagues just booked a trip to Australia. I am really looking forward to a couple o days in Salzburg, Austria in May, but I guess that will be it. So many places, so little time (and money)! I’ll enjoy my new Mac mini instead….

Today is one of my favorite days in spring. I like Easter, but the Thursday before Easter I like even more. It is alwys the first day of Easter vacation and now, that I am not in school anymore, it is at least the first day of a very nice long weekend (Good Friday and Easter Monday are national holidays in Germany). I took the day off and came home last night. The weather is sort of crabby, but we are used to it by now. I think we had about two nice and slightly warm days at all this spring... Okay, back to Gründonnerstag or Maundy Thursday, as it is called in the english-speaking world. It obviously is the day of the last supper, that Jesus shared with his apostels. And it is also almost the last day of Lent. In my region in the South of Germany, there is a very special meal, that we traditionally eat on Maundy Thursday: Maultaschen (I love, that Wikipedia has a post about this in ENGLISH). Maultaschen are made of pasta dough and filled with onions, spinach, minced meat, herbs and other stuff. Similar to Ravioli, but a lot larger and soo yummy! They were invented by monks a long time ago, because they were trying to hide the fact, that they were eating meat during lent! You can buy them in the store at any time of the year and we eat them very often. However, Maundy Thursday is the only time of the year, that we make them ourselves.

Heute hatte ich einen tollen Platz im ICE: ganz vorne in der ersten Reihe direkt hinter dem Fahrer!

Ich hab mich ruhig verhalten in den letzten Tagen, ich weiss. Der Mac ist tatsächlich jetzt da und nach langem rumprobieren funktioniert jetzt auch meine böse und offensichtlich nicht Apple-konforme Logitech Tastatur. Nicht optimal zwar, aber es reicht für den Anfang! Zum Glück kann der Mac auch die Daten auf meiner externen Festplatte lesen, so dass ich mir da auch mal erst keine neue kaufen muss. Sobald alles kopiert und gesichert ist muss mir dann mal jemand helfen die Festplatte umzuformatieren, so dass ich sie auch weiterhin zum sichern auf OS Tiger nutzen kann. Überhaupt, ich komm mir vor wie damals, vor vier Jahren, als ich meinen ersten eigenen Computer bekam. So viel Platz, alles unberührt. Und in 4 Wochen wirds wieder genauso chaotisch auf meiner Festplatte aussehen wie eh und je. Was kann ich sonst über meinen mini berichten: die Lautsprecher sind beschissen! War zu erwarten, aber nervt und scheppert trotzdem. Ansonsten ist er schnell, leiser als mein klappriges Laptop und hat viele neue Programme, die ich gern alle auf einmal probieren würde, aber ich hab keine Zeit... Naja, jetzt werd ich halt die nächsten Abende damit verbringen Daten zu transferieren. Muss eben sein. Eben kämpf ich parallel (ich kann jetzt parallel an mehreren Programmen arbeiten ohne dass mein Computer abstürzt) mit iTunes. Das will nicht so recht, so wie ich das will.
Berlin war übrigens toll, wenn auch etwas anstregend. Meine dicke Erkältung hat auch nicht wirklich Spaß gemacht, aber pünktlich zum Montag geht es mir schon wieder besser. Die Woche ist ja recht kurz und es lockt das schöne lange Osterwochenende!

2. I was united with my Mac mini about 20 minutes ago and I love it! I will post picture soon!
3. My arm is so much better. Turns out the infection was caused by a thread (is it even called thread if it is in an arm?)... The surgeon removed it yesterday and all is well!

Will it really be here tomorrow, as promised? We will see...

Look what I found in my room, when I got home this morning: a very cool Canadian Olympics Vest from Roots! My favorite store in Canada! Thank you so much guys. I look forward to hopefully visiting you soon in your new home in Canada!

Dank der günstigen Bahnticktes, die in einer weltbekannten Fastfoodkette verkauft wurden, fahr ich jetzt heim! Die Bahn ist zwar immer noch teuer, so dass ich in den nächsten Wochen auch die Mitfahrzentrale ausprobieren will, aber immerhin ist sie superschnell. Ich meine, 2h von Stuttgart nach Köln ist nicht zu verachten! Ich freu mich jetzt auf ein vollgepacktes Wochenende mit meiner Familie, Freunden und einer hoffentlich grandiosen Feier heute abend. Und wer weiss, vielleicht ist ja mein Mac min schon da, wenn ich nachher daheim ankomme...
